MERCURY BAY NEWS.
In beautiful weather the Mercury Bay Tennis Club opened its season on Labour Day before a big attendance. The courts were prettily decorated with bunting, and a gay scene presented itself when President E. C. Sutcliffe welcomed the residents and visiting players, the Coromandel Club being represented by Messrs. Purser, Brook and Beveridge. Two challenge badges are offered for this season's competitions. Mr. N. A. Wells, president of the Mercury Bay Bowling Club, wished the club every success. Mrs. Sutcliffe then opened the season by playing the first ball. In the evening a dance was held in the public hall, which was also prettily decorated for the occasion. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss G. Ritchie and Mr. R. Simpson, a novelty spot waltz was captured by Miss G. Hamilton and Mr. Robin Smith. Miss Fitness played several "extras."
