DIAMOND WEDDING.
The diamond wedding of Mr. and Mrs. James Coombes was celebrated at Paeroa last Saturday, when there was a large gathering of relatives. Mr. Coombes was born at Auckland, and Mrs. Coombes came from Sydney to New Zealand when a child. They were married at the Thames by the Rev. Mr. Jones, of the Church of England. Mr. Coombes was in business as an undertaker at the Thames for many years, and lie is the oldest member of the Parnell Foresters' Lodge. There are seven married daughters — Mesdames E. Poulgrain (Auckland), L. Olivers (New Plymouth), G. Gilmour (Auckland), I. Stanley (Taupiri), G. Winn (Auckland), T. Simpson (Hamilton) and N. Currie (Gisborne). There are three sons, Mr. R. Coombes (New Plymouth), a well-known bowler, Mr. N. Coombes (Matamata), and Mr. C. Coombes (Hamilton). There are 40 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
