COMPLAINT OF DELAY.
fc WELLINGTON STATION. ACCEPTANCE OF TENDER. Delay in acceptance of a tender for the new railway station at Wellington was commented upon this morning by the principal of one of the Auckland firms which "sent in tenders. * The representative of the Auckland firm said that the position was very unsatisfactory. The tenders closed on October 5, came before the Railways Board on October 19, and were then referred to the Government. The delay would prove very costly to the'successful firm, as the market was hardening for some of the material' that would be necessary. This applied to plumbing requirements,' metal lines, and structural and reinforcing steel. These would cost considerably more than the prices that were tendered on. Apart from the cost of material, there was the fact that in a big contract tenderers had a certain amount of anxiety, as they could. not tender for another contract until a decision had been made.
