EXTENSIVE RECLAMATION.

LARGE SWIMMING POOL.

Plans for enlarging the park at the mouth of the Wairau Strain, at the northern end of Milford Beach, providing further facilities for motorists, also the formation of a large salt-water swimming pool, have been drawn up in accordance with proposals to carry out a comprehensive scheme of improvements "at Milford. Details of finance have to be arranged.

The proposals provide for the straightening of the channel of the stream, which curves inwards. To do this it will be necessary to erect a large concrete retaining wall some distance away from the present boundary of the park. On the inner side of the wall part of the channel will be utilised to form a swimming pool (SOOft long and 120 ft wide. This will be the largest swimming pool in Australia or New New Zealand. 111 order that the water may be changed when desired, pipes with penstock valves will lead into the newly-formed Wairau channel, and it is proposed to plant trees and form lawns in the reclaimed land, which will extend the park area.

The Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. Guinivcn, wlio is responsible for the scheme, stated to-day tllat a private firm is assisting with the finance, and that the relief wages will be subsidised.
