CENTRAL BANK.
POSSIBLE CHANGES.
STATEMENT BY MR. COATES
MAIN PRINCIPLES TO STAND
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON", tliis day
In a statement issued to-day the Rt. Hon. J. CI. Coates, Minister of Finance, said: "In view of various speculations which are circulating about possible changes that the Government is making in the -Central Bank Bill, I should like it to be known quite definitely that 110 decisions have been arrived at. Many representations have been made to and considered by the Government and caucus, but as yet there has been nothing drafted.
"In fact," Mr. Coatee added, "after other interested parties have been consulted, another caucus will later be held for further discussion of any possible changes, if these should prove necessary and desirable. I may say that the bill will remain substantially as first presented. As far as general principles are concerned, there w be no major changes in the method of working the Reserve Bank—the main principles will be there. In the meantime I can make 110 statement. 011 any minor alterations, because nothing has been decided upon."
