BROKEN NECK.

DUNEDIN MAN'S RECOVERY.

CHEERFUL WATERSIDER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. * When a man breaks his neck it is generally accepted that he has met with an extremely sudden death, but there is in Dunedin one man who is a living contradiction of that elementary theory. He is Mr. W. J. Conn,,an elderly waterside worker, who last week fell very heavily on his neck while negotiating some steps. Feeling dazed, he picked himself up and walked to the Dunedin Hospital. His case has created much interest at the hospital for an X-ray examination clearly disclosed that there were two fractures of the cervical vertebrae, which means a broken neck.

After being in hospital for four days Mr. Conn declined to stay there any longer, declaring that he was quite fit and was suffering no pain. Now he is enjoying a few days' rest before taking up work on the wharf again. He told a reporter to-day that he is feeling perfectly well and has not even a crick in his neck to remind him of the accident.
