Following a dispute over rental for a power line supplying current to the company, the Thames Valley Electric Power Board yesterday evening cut off power to the mining company, Kuranui Golden Hills. Though it was stated that such a step would necessitate the disconnecting of the borough supply, the borough remains unaffected. The board demanded payment of £100 from the compa.iv for power used. The-original Intention was to cut off electricity on Wednesday, but that was deferred until a conference yesterday. Tho company. had stated that it was not possible to pay the full amount at present, but made a provisional offer. If power were disconnected, the works would have to close down. Tho company was not a direct consumer, being supplied from tho Thames borough, which drew ite power from the board. Though the mnnaging director of the company, Mr. Aitken, applied to the borough commissioner to intermediate, his action was without success, and power was cut off. Tho Thames Prospecting Association has decided to accept an offer from the company to crush and treat ore from the Waiotahi are", at a cost of 2/ a ton, subject to certain conditions, provided that the Unemployment Board would assist with finance and labour. Tho Mines Djpartment stated that it had no objection to the association making a grant of £100 or a loan of that amount out of its funds for testing j the ore.
