College Rifles Fade After
Fjrst Spell,
After a stubborn resistance in the first spell, in wliieh they often had University beaten in scrums and line-outs, College Hides faded badly in the second half of tlie curtain raiser at Eden Park, and the game developed into a procession of University hacks to the Rides goal-line. The match was 110 means brilliant,, the players taking things fairly casually. University- were first to score, when Millik_»n sent ft good in-field pass to Hush, in College Ililles twenty-live, and Bush potted no easy goal. Soon came a good try to Hifle«. Splendid loose play by their forward* saw Stone break clean away, and j.jixh to Watson, who scored between the po<ts. Wales easily converted. A period of even play followed, and then University went, to the attack. Several chances wore frittered away, but soon success came when Jaguseh sent (lie backs away, and Cauglicv scored between the posts, lor Bush to convert, and at half-time the score was o—s in University's favour. Soon after Ihe opening of the second spell. University opened out. Bush carved his way through to pass to Caugliey, who scorcd his second try. Bush converted. University soon scored a spectacular try. Lewis, on the wing, passed in-field, and tlie ball travelled along a string of backs, for Bush to polish off tlie movement with a try r.n the opposite (lank. Bush just missed the kick. Soon Bush went over to convert his own try, and this was followed by a try by Mllliken, which Caugliey converted from in front. Again Bush crashed his way through, but missed his kick, and just before time Caughcy crowned a pretty movement with a try wide out. Busli just missed, and time came, with the result::— University 3a College Hides ... 5
