AUBRETIAS.
EFFECTIVE TRAILING PLANTS,
Aubrctias are lovely spring and summer flowering plants. They are hardy and evergreen and are profuse bloomers, tlio whole of the plant being covercd with a mass of bloom. They aro low-growing trailing plants, and do well planted on tops of banks, walls, or high positions 011 tlip rockery where they can hang over and cover the face of an almost perpendicular rock or wall, and aro well deserving of the popular name rock cress. Tho mistake is often made in planting aubretias on the Hat. This may be and is suitable in some places where the soil is light and stony or tho climate severe, but about Auckland with its moist, humid climate the aubretia does best when growing over the face of rock or wall. Aubrctias aro easily raised from seed and vary in colour from pure white to purpio with tones of <lelicate mauve and pale rosy lilac. There arc also several named varieties that are excellent selections.
