TE AROHA HORSES.

RECENT TRACK WORK

NAHLIN TO SPELL

Tlie Te Aroha nominations for the Waikato Hunt Club meeting on Labour Day are Desert Star, King s Archer, Mustang, Tin Lap, Val Watch, Good Pi"'. Moonfleet and Don't Lap. Ihcy are all training on well, and the most forward of them as regards racing condition should get into the money on the day.

S. Tremain will be riding at the Waverley meeting, having been engaged for the horses trained by J. F. Butler. lie will be back in time for the Ohinemuri meeting, where he will be riding in the pirncipal events.

This week Mr. R. B. Hines' Queen Arch produced a colt foal to Musketoon, therefore a full-brother to King Musk, who is now showing up at Ellerslie. The juvenile is a black, and in colour may have thrown back to his great-grandam Brownie. King's Archer, although big and burly iin condition, is already beginning to show that he has not lost his pace. He is sprinting very smartly, but as it is too early in the season to expect him to run out a mile and a quarter, shorter distances, with the colours up, will tend to bring him-on for November and December racing. His first appearance this season will be at Cambridge on Labour Day.

Consequent upon moving a little short behind, probably through a jar, Mungatoon has been away from the tracks for a few days, but is to resume work at any time. An addition to Mr. J. B. Johnson's thoroughbreds at Mangaiti this week is a filly foal by Musketoon from a full-sister to King's Archer (Marble Arch —Queen A mans). The dam did not race on account of having a slightly deformed foreleg, but the new arrival is perfectly shaped in all respects and in due course may be asked to make a name for herself on the turf.

C. E. Mallowes has been very patient in the preparation of Mustang, with the result that the Musketoon —Lady Ladbury gelding has furnished into one of solid conformation. He will be seen out at the Waikato Hunt meeting, by which time he should be ready to gallop fast.

With the advent of spring weather conditions the track gallops, at least twice a week, are beginning to be interesting. This week good work has been executed, in some cases showing that at least some of the charges are showing material improvement. Serviceable work was shown by Unoco, King Brierly, Nalilin, Lueullus — Gold Plane gelding, King Ara and Mustang. Tin Lap and the Cynic filly ran half a mile in 51s, the former finishing a little in front. Good Run and Moonfleet were associated over six furlongs. The big black jumped out first and, going on with his task in good style, finished up 'with an advantage of a length in 1.17 1-5. Val Watch cantered a round and then jumped off from the six-furlongs post, running home in 1.20. She was under a nice hold throughout. Desert Star (Tremaine) set off from the mile post and picked up Don t. Lap (lveesing) at the four-furlongs. They ran home together, the mile being run in 1.44 2-5, which is counted a fair gallop, but not exceptional, as the track was on tlie fast side. King Mestor, King's Archer and Mungacre were sent out together for a half-mile dash. From a walking start they raced together right into the straight. A hundred yards from the-post King Mestor appeared to hold matters safely, when King's ArcheK put in his run on the outside, to score by a short head in 495. Mungacre was a couple of lengths away. J. F. Eva has Lady Musk nearly readyto resume track work. She comes to hand fairly soon on a light preparation, so maybe ready to race at Te Rapa in November. The Musketoon mare lias previously won on this course, and this is in her favour. The two-year-old Nalilin will not be a contestant at Paeroa this month. Consequent upon a minor ailment developing it has been deemed advisable to give the King Lu —Queen Arch gelding a lengthy spell. Up to Tuesday morning lie was galloping freely, but then experienced a setback. Te Aroha should be well represented at the Ohinemuri meeting, tlie following being nominated from here: Desert Star. King Brierly, Val Watch, Mungacre. CynicUnique filly. Unoco, Mustans. Moonlleet, Good Run, Mungatoon and King Mestor.
