SECOND READINGS.
PARLIAMENT AT WORK.
TAXING BILL ON TUESDAY.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. With the Address-in-Keply debate out of the way, the House yesterday afternoon settled down to the consideration of Government bills, the bulk of which were of minor moment. Second readings were accorded the Agricultural »iul Pastoral Societies Amendment Bill, providing for the issue of by-laws controlling side-showmen; the Marriage Laws Amendment, which seeks to raise the marriage consent age to 10 years for both sexes and to allow women ministers of religion to perforin the marriage ceremony; the Nurses and Midwives Registration Amendment, which will secure the purging of the present [registration roll of 11,000 names, the addresses of half of whom are not known; the National Art Gallery and Museum Amendment Bill, which gives Wellington an additional representative on the board of control; the Law and Libel Amendment, protecting the publication of fair reports of domestic tribunals associated with sports organisations; the Trustee Amendment, extending the borrowing powers of trustees; the Judicature Amendment, giving permanency to last session's legislation dealing with special fixtures of the Court of Appeal; a Protocol Bill enforcing commercial arbitration awards made between foreigners and New Zealanders; and the Judicial Proceedings (Regulation of Reports) Bill, restricting the publication of unsavoury details.
In three instances the second readings were taken pro forma, to enable the Law of Libel, Trustee and Judicial Proceedings Bills to be referred to the Statutes Revision Committee.
The first business before the House 011 Tuesday will be the passage of the Annual Taxii.g Bill.
