TENNIS TEAM.
MALFROY FOR AUCKLAND. TO MEET AUSTRALIANS. Cam. Malfroy, No. 1 on the New Zealand tennis ranking list, has been invited by the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to play against the Australians in Auckland on Friday, states the "Christcliurch Star." He will leave Christcliurch on Tuesday evening. The Australians, Crawford and McGrath, will play in Auckland, and while Crawford is not expected to play in the singles, he will play in the doubles. Angas has not been invited to go, and the intentions of the New Zealand Association do not appear very clear with regard to him. For the matches against the Englishmen in Christcliurch on Labour Day, there is some doubt as to what the New Zealand team will be. The most popular side, with a view to the gate, would be Malfroy, Angas and Barnett. Barnett would now go into training if he were sure of selection. It is believed that the New Zealand team will be required to play only in Wellington and Christcliurch, and that it will not travel with the visitors. If the team did travel in the New Zealand tour, the games would undoubtedly have a higher educational value.
