CRICKET RUMOURS.
English Statement Repudiated By Australian Official.
A "BODY-LINE" REVIVAL,
(Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, October 1. The "Sunday Observer" advocates at least a. year's postponement of cricket Test matches between England and Australia, and says memories of the dead set against Jardine and liis team-mates will be too vivid next summer, for the Australians to have the imclouded ■welcome whigh everyone would wish them to enjoy. Although the contents of the cablegram from the Australian Board of Cricket Control are till undisclosed by the Marylebone Club the "Daily Herald" publishes a message from. Sydney saying the board demanded an unqualified guarantee that there shall be no bodyline bowling, otherwise the arrangements for the Australian tour will be cancelled. The correspondent states that this decision followed one of the most heated discussions in the history of Australian cricket. The "Herald" describes this as an extraordinary position, just when everybody had taken i.t for granted that the body-line dispute had been allowed to die a natural death. A Sydney cable states that Mr. E. Oxlade, chairman of the Australian Board of Cricket Control, flatly denies the "Daily Herald's" report. He says the board has not made any demands on the M.C.C., nor was there a heated discussion on body-line bowling at the board's meeting. "The contents of our cablegram to the Marylebone Club will not bo made known until that club has dealt with the matter," said Mr. Oxlade.
