GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
The annual rally of the Girls' Friendly Society,. held on Saturday afternoon ill the St. Matthew's Hall in Pitt Street, was one. of the most successful in the history of the Auckland branch of the society. Representatives of every branch attended in large numbers and the afternoon and evening passed in competitions, games and musical "items. The warm, sunny day provided tho opportunity for wearing light eiimmor frocks, and with their branch colours and club badges the girls made % delightful picture. The stage was decorated with bowls of arum lilies, Iceland poppies and anemones, while the banners of the different branches draped the walls. The articles knitted for competition by the girls were displayed on a long table and the collection of articles made from sugar bags mado a splendid display. During the afternoon various competitions arranged for both members and candidates were held and judged. The elocutionary, singing and drawing competitions were judged by Miss Ada Necker, and the folk and scarf dances by Mies M. A. Johnson. Musical items were contributed by EUerslie A and Miss M. Henderson, while the part songs and elocutionary items also added to the entertainment. The programme was opened by Archbishop Averill, who spoko briefly of tho good work being done by the society and stressed particularly the future of the junior members. The junior committee, with Mrs. L. E. as _ president, was assisted in the organisation of the rally, by Mrs. Averill, president of the society, and members of the G.F.S. Council, comprising Mesdames Fricker, Streater, 0. Keeblo Knox, C. Teweley, J. J. Rogers, R. Coats, Misses M. Heywood, Jackson, Connolly, Langafoi-d, Towle, E. Brown. Misses Luey Tuke, Meg Russell and Golder were members of the junior committee who assisted with the serving of a high tea at tho conclusion of the afternoon's programme. The cup competed for by tho members was won by Ellerslio A and Epiphany, who tied. The candidates' ehield was won by St. Luke's, Mount Albert. The presentations were mado by Mrs. Averill. Branches represented at tho rally were St. Luke's, St. Chad'?, St. Matthew's, Ellerslie A, Ellerslio B, St. Oswald's, SI. Thomas', St. Cuthbert's, St. Theodore's and St. Alban's.
