MILK GRADING.

REGULATIONS DEFENI^D. "NO COMPLAINT OF MOMENT." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, Friday. Replying to a resolution passed at Woodville by the Bush Factories Association, criticising the milk grading tests, the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, says the new regulations for the grading of milk for the manufacture of cheese received very careful consideration prior to and since being gazetted. No complaint of moment had been received, except from the district represented at the meeting, and one other district represented by five companies. "As experience ;ie gained by those carrying out the work of grading, the merits of the present system, and more particularly in so far as it includes the curd test, are becoming more generallyappreciated," continued the Minister. It is known the great majority of cheese factory managers in the Dominion favour the use of the curd test from the standpoint of efficiency, and it is also known that the great majority of dairy scientists consider one test inadequate for the proper classifying of milks. . . , , ~ "I am personally of opinion that the regulations should not be amended unless the future proves them inadequate. I trust the association will ensure that the requirements of the regulations as gazetted will receive an unbiased and fair opportunity of making good throughout the current season, and that the managers will give the instructor for the district their hearty cooperation so ae to cause milk grading to be as efficient and satisfactory as possible."
