SHORTER HOURS.
Your correspondent "Quill" is a superoptimist if he expects our Government to introduce legislation to shorten the hours of workers. Does "Quill" know that the Government asks tablet porters on the railways to work 50 hours - weekly? I also understand that bridgekeepers arc called upon to work a mere GO hours weekly. Of course, if these men worked shorter hours more would be employed, and this tvould go a long way towards, solving the unemployment problem. Perhaps Xew Zealand could set an example to the world in this way. In the meantime, we can just wait and see, while one section of the worker* work long hours and the rest cannot got work. It is a funny world! BILL.
