PEARCE NERVOUS.
TO-MORROW'S SCULLING RACE. (Received 11 a.m.) TORONTO, August 31. For the first time in his life Bobby Pearce is nervous and "jumpy" before a sculling race (for tho world title on Friday) for which Toronto and Hamilton are all behind the Australian giant to win against Phelps. "I think it is a good sign that Pearce is satisfied on points of both confidence and condition, but he is short-tempered. When Bob gets into the boat all nervousness will vanish," Manager Walter Boernesser said. "It shows he is taking this race seriously, which means that Pearce is ready to row as he never did before."
