SCULLING TITLE. Pearce's Challenge to World Holder. TROUBLE OVER THE COURSE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph-Copyright.) (Received 11 a.m.) TORONTO, August 30. With the world's professional sculling title at stake, 11. R. Pearce and A. E. Phelps have concluded their training and are awaiting Friday's "gun." Both are reported to be in the pink of condition and anxious to match blades over the Canadian National Exhibition course. Pearce on Wednesday was favourite over his lighter rival, but experts are non-committal as to his chances. Pearce said on Wednesday he is hopeful the exhibition officials would agree to his request that the string buoys placed down the centre of the mile-long course will be removed. "It is quite unprecedented in championship sculling," said Jim Rice, Pearce's coach. t "If Bob is forced to keep to the centre, rowing up and down that breakwater course, he will have to put up with whatever wind there is. Phelps will be protected, as he can run along under cover of the sea wall. If Bob strikes his oar just once on one of those buoys it will be the end of him."
