DAY OF CRASHES.
Many Lives Lost in 'Plane and , Train Mishaps. ACCIDENTS IN AMERICA. SAN FRANCISCO, August 30. A message from El Paso, Texas, states that two spectacular aeroplane accidents and also a railway smash cost 16 lives in the south-western section of the county to-day. A train plunged through a bridge into a flooded river near Tucumcari, New Mexico. Eight were killed and 40 injured. A passenger aeroplane flying in a rainstorm near Amarillo, Texas, crashed, killing the two pilots and three passengers. Two army aeroplanes crashed headon, killing one instructor and two cadets. The second instructor leaped to safe'ty by parachute.
SURVEY MACHINES. BRITISH 'PLANES FOR SPAIN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, August 30. Four Fox Moth, light, cabin 'planes, designed and equipped for air surveying, will leave London and fly in formation to Spain, where they will be employed by the Spanish Government's Topographical Survey Department.
