BOARD OF CONTROL AFFAIRS. MOTION OF CONDOLENCE. HA WEE'S BAY MATCH SATURDAY. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board of Control last evening, the chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, made sympathetic reference to the death of Mrs. Cnlpan, mother of Mr. Ivan Culpan, secretary, and of Mr. Nelson Culpan, treasurer of the New Zealand League. A motion of condolence was passed, all members standing. It was reported that all arrangements for the match with Hawke's Bay on Saturday were well in hand, and the visitors would be arriving in the city this evening. It was stated that the Hawke's Bay League hoped to spring a surprise by its performance. The chairman advised that the return match between Auckland and South Auckland would take place at Carlaw Park on Saturday week, when the challenge round would proceed as usual. It was dec.idcd to approve, subject to sanction by the council, of the visit of City Rovers to play at New Plymouth and Ponsonby Club at Taradale, Hawke's Bay- -both on September 9 —subject to the departure of the teams having no bearing on the challenge competition.

The Wellington League advised that its champion club, Celtic, would not visit Auckland as anticipated on September 16. It was decided to stage the champion of champions match on that date.

Dissatisfac'tion was expressed in connection with the shortage of linesmen on No. 2 cround, and, in view of other complaints regarding control on the same ground, it waa resolved to have a special conference with the Referees' Association. Several letters were received from patrons witli suggestions, one writer dealing at length with club colours, and submitting illustrations.
