NAVAL SOCCER.

AUSTRALIA ( V. NEW ZEALAND. SATURDAY'S CHALLENGE MATCH. AUCKLAND TO MEET WELLINGTON. An outstanding event in the local Soccer code will be the meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Navy representative teams on Blandford Park on Saturday for the challenge cup presented by the Auckland Football Association for competition between these units of the Empire defence service whenever such a match can be arranged. At the meeting of the control board of the A.F.A. last night it was stated that the Naval authorities had written to the effect that both teams would be exceptionally strong and that very keen interest and rivalry had been engendered regarding the challenge. The New Zealand squadron at present holds tile trophy, and has had it in its possession since it was donated in 1926, having survived three challenges in the interim. A sub-committee in charge of the arrangements reported that everything was in readiness for the engagement, and the entertainment committee stated that both teams would be entertained at dinner after the match in the Thistle Hotel. The chairman, Dr. Neil McDougall, referred to the successes of the Auckland teams last week-end at Dunedin, Wellington and Palmsrston North, where the F.A. Trophy, Chatham Cup and Skerrett G.ip respectively were captured, by which all the Dominion championships had been rewon for Auckland. Several members endorsed the chairman's remarks, expressing gratification' at the return of the association to the position of premiership it had held a few years ago. Inquiry was made by the Now Zealand Council as to whether Auckland was prepared to accept a challenge from the Wellington and Canterbury Associations for the English Trophy. As the board has already been in communication with Wellington, it was decided to advise the council that it was prepared to accept a challenge from Wellington, and was awaiting confirmation of the only date available, September 9. _ . The South Auckland Association confirmed September 16 as the date for the representative match at Hamilton for the Flyger Cup, for players under the age of 21 years, and also its acceptance of September 23 for the return match at Auckland. The following ground officials were appointed for Saturday:—Blandford Park, Messrs. F. M. Ritchie, J. Ball, G. L. Adams, W. Walker, J. T. Lee, A. Fletcher; Domain, Mr. C. G. Ballantyne.
