ST. MARY'S HOMES.
An appeal is to be made next week in aid of St. Mary's Homes, Otahuhu, whose funds are in need of assistance. A grant which has been made by the Government towards the upkeep of these homes has now been withdrawn, and the whole burden of supporting the homes falls on the charitably-minded, who have less to help with. The Oxford movement was the first to take up the cause of women who had been betrayed by men and left to face the consequences, and from this has grown a better feeling to those who, too often, are the weakerminded in the community. It is to help the unmarried mother to retain and care for her child that these homes are appealing to the public. The stalls at the fair will be taken as follow: Produce, St. Mary's, Parnell, Mesdames Cory-Wright, Russell, Leatham and Miss Lindsay; cakes, St. Aidan's ahd All Saints', Mesdames, Hawkes, Connolly, W. Averill, Matthews and Miss Brown; stall with articles from threepence upwards, Mesdames Tutt, Lowrie and Miss Harrison, St. Andrews, Epsom; work, Mesdames Draper, Robinson, Davison, St. Sepulchre's, St. Barnabas' and Devonport; ' country branches' stall, Mesdames Mac Murray, Wigg, Straw and J.
