MAIN HIGHWAY SCHEME.
TRIBUTE PAIJ> TO MR. COATES. (B,i Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OAMARU, Wednesday. Addressing the Motor Association last evening, Mr. C. J. Talbot, r.. member of the Main Highways Board, praised the work of the Eight Hon. J. G Coates in devising the main highways scheme. Mr. Talbot said it was one of the finest enactments of the Coates Government. Mr. Talbot also contended that though the board might appear be working adversely to the railways, it had to carry out the policy of motorists, who paid for the roads. In his opinion it was not the buses which were killing the railways, but private cars.
