WOOL IN DEMAND.

BUYERS IN DUNEDIN. ADVANCE FOR FINER SORTS. HALFBRED BRINGS INCREASE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) D.UXEDIN, Wednesday. A supplementary wool sale was held to-day before a representative bench of buyers. The total offering was 3902 bales. The bulk of the offering was comprised of crutchings. With the exception of a few held-over clips the fleece wool was mostly of the straggler nature and consequently heavy in condition and seedy. From the outset the demand for finer wools was much keener than at the close of last season, and prices for this class showed a considerable advance. Good halfbred sold up to 14Jd per H>. which, compared with last season's prices, shows an advance of approximately 35 per cent. On average and inferior halfbred and also Merino the percentage increase amounted to oO per cent. There was a good demand for crossbred wools, but while prices were up to 2o per cent higher than last season's, the results of the sale were hardly up to expectations with crossbred. There was a general demand, bidding coming from all quarters, with France in particular bidding very keenly For fine wools. The Dominion mills were keen for any lots suitable for their requirements. Crutchings sold extremely well, best halfbred crutchings realising BJd per lb. Last season 4Jd was the highest price ruling for fine crutchings. There was a fair 'demand for crossbred crutchings, but they did not sell as readily as the finer qualities. The highest price obtained was 5Jd. Other oddments on sale realised good prices, especially locks and stained pieces, all of which showed ah advance of up to oO per cent on last year's values. The official range of prices was as follows: — Merino: Super, to 13Jd per lb; average, lOkl to 12d; inferior, 9d to lOd. Halfbred: Super, 13d to 14.$ d; average, lid to 121 d; inferior, Old to IOJd. Fine Crossbred: Super, OJd to lOJd; average, 8d to 9d; inferior, OJd to 7M. Medium Crossbred: Super, 7id to B}d; average; 6d to 7-d; inferior, 4Jd to 5Jd. Coarse Crossbred: Super, Old to 7id; average, 5d to fld; inferior, 3Jd to 4Jd. Halfbred Pieces and Necks: Good, 4Ad to 7d; inferior, 3d to 4d. Crutchings:—Halfbred: Super, Gd to Sid; average, 4-id to sid; inferior, 3d to Fine crossbred: Super,_ 4Jd to 5Jd; average, 32d to 4Jd; inferior, 2:] d to 3d. Medium crossbred: Super, 7.|d to 8-Jd; average, 6d to 7d; inferior, 4}d to 5Jd. Coarse crossbred: _ Super, Old to 7M; average, 5d to Gd; inferior, 3Jd to 4ld- • ....
