LOCAL BODIES.
AMALGAMATION WANTED. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE VIEW. The amalgamation of local bodies with a view to more economical municipal practice was recommended by the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this morning. _ The chairman, Mr. Harvey Turner, presided. The following remit from the conference of the Associated Chambers was adopted:— ... _ "That a most urgent reform with a view to national economy is the amalgamation of contiguous local bodies. This conference commends to the _ consideration of other parts of the Dominion the voluntary move to this end recently made in North Auckland and Hawkes Bay, and urges the Government to facilitate by legislation (and, if necessary, bv the setting up of a suitable investigating body) an early reduction in the number of local bodies.'
