TRAGIC SCENE.

FOUND INJURED. ELDERLY COUPLE. MAN IN CRITICAL STATE. DISCOVERY BY SON. A tragic discovery was made by a young man at 71, Grange Road, Mount | Eden, about 5.30 this morning, when he found his mother lying on her bed with eerious head injuries and his father in another part of the house with his throat cut. The. injured people are: — Nellie Gordon, aged 65. John Shaw Gordon, aged 68. Both are now in the Auckland Hospitali the man in a. critical condition, the ■woman recovering. It was about 5.30 when the son, Maurice, aged 22, made the discovery. Hβ summoned Dr. John Dreadon, of Dominion Road, who, on arrival at the house, sent for tie ambulance and the police. A few minutes later a St. John ambulance and Detectives Mahood and Turgis arrived, and they were followed shortly afterwards by Constable F. Belcher, of Balmoral Road. When Dr. Dreadon arrived, at 5.45, he found Mrs. Gordon, with serious head injuries, lying on a bed in a front room. Mr. Gordon, with a serious wound in his throat, was lying in a critical state in the back bedroom. A razor was found in the room where Mrs. Gordon was lying. It is stated that, after calling her son, Mrs. Gordon staggered from the back room to the front, taking her husband's razor ■with, her.Both Mr. ' and Mrs. Gordon were conscious when taken away to hospital. Mrs. Gordon's ■bedroom is at the back of the house. Her .husband slept in ariother room. The house is divided into two flats, and ' although only a wall separated, them, a. young married couple in the next fiai. heard no sound during the night, nor did the neighbours on either'eide of the Gordon home. The Gordons are well known in the- district, having lived in the same house for over 20 years.
