MEMBER FOR MANUKAU. CHANGES IN ENGLAND. "I was at the. opening of the World Economic and Monetary Conference and followed the proceedings closely throughout the sittings, but I prefer to make no comment at present as the Prime Minister and Mr. Masters will report on the proceedings and the reason for the adjournmen.t on their return," said Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, who returned from a trip to England by the Rangitata this morning. "They may tell of the reasons for the conference," he continued, "whether it was working out as intended, whether certain difficulties will be overcome during the adjournment, and whether the delegates will meet again or set up a committee to deal with questions financial and economic. Maybe a social and industrial conference will yet be held in order to improve distribution and consumption to the advantage of the producer and society generally, but that will not arise from the present conference.. "A great change in the social spirit of Britain is taking place and New Zealand may have to reconsider many tilings," he continued. "Our trade may lie interfered with by a quota policy. "Our policy of hardship and upsetting family life is discredited elsewhere. Wage cuts are being restored in Britain andthere is an effective demand for better treatment of the unemployed and employed. Financial policies and monetary arrangements are being upset and changes must take place. "Our duty now is to see that our people are cared for and , family life maintained. If we do not do it, it certainly will not be done, or advocated, by tlic forces overseas which are affecting us."
