JOAN HAMMOND A WINNER, N.Z. LADIES INDISPOSED. MELBOURNE, August 29. The ladies' national golf tournament was continued to-day for the foursome championship and handicap events. Miss O. Lefevre and Miss J. Hammond (New South Wales), with scores of 82 and 84, won. Miss Olive Kay and Miss B. Gaisford (New Zealand), 92 and 82, tied with Mrs. Alex. Russell and Miss Lascelles (Victoria) for second place. The match between the winners and the New Zealand pair in the afternoon round attracted a large gallery, but while the golf was excellent and the hitting good, the scoring was just sound. The handicap event was won by Mrs. Thompson and Miss J. Nicholls, 75 (17). The New Zealand pair was the lowest handicapped pair ever to compete in Victoria. Miss Susie Tolhurst (Victoria), after yesterday's brilliant win, went home to bed with influenza and it is doubtful if she can play in the first round of the Australian women's championship, to be played to-morrow. Mrs. G. Williams (New Zealand) lias improved slightly from an attack of influenza. Mrs. J. C. Templar (New Zealand) was indisposed to-day and was scratched from the foursomes. Miss Grace is also suffering slightly from influenza. AUCKLAND LADIES' CLUB. Members of the Auckland Ladles' Golf Club played the qualifying rounds for the senior championship at Middlemore yesterday. Qualifiers : —Miss E. Juniors: Mrs. Bishop, 98—30 —68; Mrs. Schischka, 102— 29—73. The last flag match" resulted:—Seniors: Mrs. Phillip carried the flag to the 19th fairway. C gratfc: Miss Menzies carried the flag to the 18th hole. The semi-finals and finals for the captain's trophy must be completed by this week.
