SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The Onewhero Golf Club dance attracted a large attendance, including visitors from neighbouring clubs. The local hall was decorated with maroon and gold streamers, in addition to greenery. Very complete arrangements had been made by the ladies' committee for the entertainment of guests. * * * » An evening was held on Monday night at the Hotel Grande Vue, St. Helier's Bay, by the members of the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co,, Ltd., in honour of Miss Lynda Gosling, when a programme of games, competitions and dancing was enjoyed. Among those present were: Mesdames T. L. Couper, H. Duke, R. Buckrell, J. Barnard. B. B. Dalton, Misses P. Yockney, M. Ryan, P. Hall, D. Willcox, E. Willcox, L. Marshall, T. O'Donnell, W. Bolton, Joan Gosling, Zoe Swain, and F. Edmonds. * * * * A well-attended and enjoyable flag five hundred evening was given by the Unity Tennis Club in their social hall, Sandrlngham. The prizes were won by Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Mills and Mrs. H. Hayhow. After supper, which was served by the members of the ladies' committee, dancing followed. Among the guests were the club's new president for the coining season, Mr. W. Goodby, and Me«dames T. Wilson, Mills, Barnett, W. A. Reid, Stafford, Hunt, E. Walker, H. Hayhow; Misses C. Christie, K. Ferriff, J. Gemmcl, Jensen and Ostler. * * ♦ • A delightful party in honour of Miss Peggy Ford was given by Mies Wilina Frater at her home in Domett Avenue, Epsom. The rooms were gay and spr-ing-like with vases and bowls of Iceland poppies, daffodils and violets. The party took the form of a coat-hanger party, and many novel and dainty designs appeared. The guest* were received by Miss Wilma Frater, who wore a frock of cicl blue flowered ninon. The guest of honour wore an ensemble of fawn flecked tweed. Lofley (Victor- Dubois), Mr. B. Bullen (Mr. Spriggins), 'Mies M. B. Westmore (Mrs. Spriggins), Miss I. Taylor (Angelina), Miss I. Foubister (Jufian), Miss Gladys McLeod (Anna Marion). The parts in "Knitting Society" were taken by Miss Zela Boniface (Mrs. Smith), Miss Audrey Cross (Miss Grey), Miss Ngaere Lodge (Mrs. Green), Miss Gwen Ellery (Miss Jones), Miss Peggy Todd (Mrs. Brown), Miss Phyllis Matthews (Mrs. White), Mies Pat Matthews (Johnnie Smith). Various announcements during the evening were made by Mr. K. A. Sneddon, president of the Repertory Society, and prizes were presented by the Rev. Father Doyle, the winners being Miss A. A resolution was proposed on Monday evening by Mrs. John Cook, and carried unanimously, that tho good wishes of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women should -be conveyed to Mrs. James McCombs for her success at the forthcoming election for the Lyttelton electorate. • * # • One of the most popular social events of the year in Morrinsvillc was the animal ball of tho Morrinsvillc Volunteer Fire Brigade, hold in the Strand Tlteatre on Monday evening. The hall was filled with dancers from as far afield as Matamata and To Aroha. Music was played by a Hamilton orchestra, and extras by Miss V. Ilowarth, Messrs. R. Shaw, H. Crickett and C. Cresswell. Streamers of red and black, the brigade colours, were used to decorate the hall, and the supper room was particularly well decorated by a committee of lady supporters of the brigade. • * » ♦ A successful bridge afternoon was liekl yesterday in the Devonport bowling pavilion by members of the North Shore Croquet Club. Bowls of bright spring flowers made attractive and cheerful decorations. The guest of honour was Mrs. A. E. Oswald, vicepresident of the Xew Zealand Croquet Council. The guests were welcomed by Miss J. A. Mowbray, presiient of the league. Tho hostesses were Mesdames J. King, J. C. Dickenson, Nantcd, Garry, N. Passmore, J. Jackson, md Traill, and Misses Sutton, Slator (2), Keable, and Skeates. In her welcoming remarks, Miss Mowbray spoke of ;he origin of tho league and of tlie amount }f work done by its many members, and explained briefly some of its aims and ideals.
