HIGHER NORTHCOTE RATES
COUNCIL TO EXPLAIN. Stating that there wae much dissatisfaction among ratepayers in Northcote regarding the increase of the rates, Mr. E. C. Fowler asked, at a meeting of the council last evening, that a date should be fixed for a meeting of ratepayers, eo that tho position might be explained to them. . It was decided to convene a meeting for September 19. | Mr. Fowler said that unrest among the ratepayers was so strong that an indignation meeting waft being spoken of. He knew that the increase was caused by circumstances beyond the control of the council, but many of the ratepayers did not understand that. Other councillors expressed similar views.
