MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.
Tlio Mount Roskill Roacl Board met last night. Mi - . S. Scarborough, deputychairman, presided. Slot Telephone.—The Post and Telegraph Department suggested that if the board were satisfied that the revenue from a slot telephone at Waikowhai Park would exceed the working expenses, no doubt the necessary guarantee, £30, would be forthcoming. The cost of a call would be twopence. The chairman said if the board gave the guarantee required, the members would have to refund any deficit out of their own pockets. The business was held over for three months. No. 5 Scheme.—The board adopted the committee's recommendation that as a matter of principle the bodies utilising largo numbers of men under No. 5 scheme should pay the overdraft interest involved in each case at present borne by the board's district fund. Change of Name.—A number of ratepayers petitioned the board to change the namo of Arkell Road to Dominion Road. It was stated in support of the petition that Arkell Road is now a continuation of Dominion Road. The finance committee will report. Sunday Games.—The board decided not to permit Sunday games to be played in Seymour Park. It was agreed to lay down a cricket pitch in the park for relief workers. Extra Work. —It was decided to grant an extra day's work to all members of the outdoor permanent staff. Eleven men are affected and they will now be employed for five days a week. Street Collection.—Permission was given to the Victoria League to hold a "daffodil day" street collection on Friday jointly in aid of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, the Navy League and the Victoria League.
