POUND NOTES DISAPPEAR. It is reported that pound notes to the number of 13 disappeared fro.n a till in Kissin's Kash andKarry drapery auction room, Karangahape Road, about five o'clock on Friday evening. It is suspected that a woman's sleight of hand explains the disappearance of the money. The auction room, which is in the Bon Marche building, was crowded with Friday shoppers. The routine of the business is for a girl cashier to sit at a table alongside the auctioneer and take money from and give change to assistants. A till in the form of a box containing several compartments is placed on the table in front of her. Ten-shilling notes are placed in one compartment, £1 notes in another, and silver in several others, according to the denomination. Business was brisk on Friday afternoon. Several garments had been tossed on to the cashier's table, and cne or two partly covered the till. In the general bustle, a woman was seen examining a ■silk knitted jumper which, had been thrown on top of the till, covering the Compartments containing the notes. Later the cashier found that she was £13 ehort. She remembered that a woman had taken a keen interest in an out-of-date garment that the auctioneer could not sell.
