\ OFFENCE AT SURFDALE. 5 YOUNG MAN FOR SENTENCE. I Arrested at Tauranga on August 13, I Arnold Bridge Moody appeared in the Police Court this morning, when he was charged with stealing clothing, two cameras, two torches, a pair of field i glasses, three razors, a rifle, and a t quantity of tinned provisions, of a total I value of £20, from the dwelling of A. R. ' Piper, at Surfdaie, Waiheke," on May 10. Mr. F. W. Schramm appeared for , accused. j , . : A. H. Piper said he was a builder, \ living at Surfdale. On May 10 he contracted influenza and had to come to Auckland. Before leaving he securely locked his house, but" on returning on M.ay ;13 he. found that someone had entered the house by forcing a window. The house had been ransacked and the property stolen. ' . Constable Audley said he saw accused at Tauranga on August 13 and recovered some of the stolen property. Accused said that he had found the property in: a shed.on the Surfdale wharf. Detective Knight said he saw Moody in Auckland on August 17, when Moody explained. that he . had found the pro- ! perty in two sugar sacks in a wharf ■ shed at Waiheke. He admitted taking 1 possession of the sugar bags, and added that under the circumstances he did not ■ like to inform the district constable or anyone else. When his family left Surfdale for Tauranga he took the property ■ there with' him. S.ome of the tinned foods had been consumed. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
