MODEL YACHTING.
PONSONBY CLUB'S RACES.
The Ponsonby Model Yacht Club opened its second racing season during the week-end, when tiiree events were held in St. Mary's boat harbour. There were several new boats competing in both the 3ft and 4ft classes, and the finishes between the new craft and last season's champions was close and exciting. Mr. A. Bell's Billy Boy won the 3ft and allcomers' handicap, Billy, which finished first in three-footers being disqualified for the mark at the finishing line. Mr. L. Pohlen's Lena won the four-footers' race, with Mr. W. T. Matthew's Lionol secoud, both new boats. The races were sailed on a windward ana leeward course in a fresh breeze from the north-north-east.
Three-foot Handicap. —■ The starters were: Val Hoy, Billie Boy, Banjo, scr; Spray, Billy. Beatrice, 2m; Atlanta, Blue Bird, 4m; Dark Horse, Cm. ' Handicaps were given at the start. The finish was: Billy (B. Tapp), 3ra 38m 10s (disqualified), 1; Billie Boy (A. Bell), 3m 43m 40s. I; Beatrice (J. Everitt), 3h 44m 255, 2; Banju (11. Jackson), 3h 47m 50s, 3. Four-foot Handicap.—The starters were : Bullet, Okere, Lionol, Lena, scr; Sea Spray, 4m. Finish: Lena (L. Pohlen), 4h 24m 245, 1; Lionol (W. T. Matthews), 4h 25m 555, 2; Bullet (T. Brown), 4h 28m 525, 3.
All-comers' Handicap. — The starters were: Bullet, OUere, Lena, scr; Sea Spray, 3m; Val Hoy, Billy, sm; Beatrice, Billie Boy. 6m. The finish was: Billie Boy (A. Bell), 5h 4m 4s, 1 ; Val Hoy (W. T. Matthews), !3h 5m 255, 2; Beatrice (J. Everitt), 5h 6m 40s, 3. Mr. J. Conway was judge and Mr. W» A. Wilkinson starter | «md handicapper, _ .'
