BIRTHS AND DEATHS.
LOWEST RATES ON RECORD. MORE MARRIAGES LAST YEAR (By Telegraph.—lTohs Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Figures published in a report on the vital statistics of the Dominion for 1932, which were compiled by the Census and Statistics Office, reveal that both the birth and death rates for the year reached the lowest level on record. The birth rate was 17.09 per 1000 of the mean population. Marriages registered in New Zealand in 1932 totalled 9890. an increase of 79 as compared with 1931. The marriage rate, 6.80 per 1000 of the mean population, is slightly higher than the 1931 figure. The number of deaths registered was 11,683, as against 12,047 in the previous year. The death rate is down to the lowest level on record. The rate of infant mortality fell to 31.22 per 1000 live births, which is unprecedently low.
