WANGANUI GOSSIP.

THE HUNT MEETING. PROSPECTS OP MIDINETTK (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Thursday. In view of the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club's meeting on Saturday, the track work here this morning was interesting. The weather was fine and the going in good order. W. H. Dwyer gave Etiquette a gallop in the early morning. This filly is very well and she should make things very interesting in .the Wereroa Plate.. After breakfast Midinette ran five furlongs by herself in 1.2%, the last halfmile in a tick under 50s. The daughter of Limond is showing most of her old dash and what beats her in the Whenuakura Handicap should win. Midian and Arisus were associated in a six-furlong spin, the pair finishing together in 1.8. Both are fairly well forward. Pomp and Spiral went half a mile together in 50s, and were doing it well. Tncy were wide out, and it was a very good gallop. Pomp is not engaged on Saturday, but Spiral will be a runner in the Wavcrley Hack event.

Black Man and Waitaunaha were associated over five furlongs, the former finishing in front. Waitaunaha went on to cover another circuit. Black Man is in the Bracelet and his track work points to him as one likely to run a good race. He is a five-year-old sou of Nigger Minstrel. Waitaunaha is not so forward as some of the other likely runners in the Hunt Cup, but he lias a lot of pace for a steeplechaser and if he can sec out the journey he will be very handy at the finish, as he is a great jumper. Knolhnerc slipped over five furloni;s in good stylo and was pulling hard at the finish. Ganpat and Hawora were sent five furlongs, which they left behind in 1.3 2-5, the former being in front at the post and hitting out very freely. Ganpat will bo all the better for a race and should be very hard to beat in his engagement at the Taranaki Hunt meeting. Icier jumped off at the four-furlong post a couple of lengths ahead of Rust and kept her advantage to the end. Silver Band, who is engaged in the Bracelet on Saturday, is reported to have done good work at Haw r era and her connections think highly of her prospects. Reports to hand credit Inflation with being in great trim and he looks the one likely to give Midinette most trouble on Saturday.
