Gentility, the three-year-old filly by Grand Knight—Civility, had to be destroyed at Wanganui yesterday morning as the result of staking herself very badly. She was being given slow work, when she suddenly reared up and swerved, landing on the rails, which broke, and she was so seriously cut about with the jagged ends that she had to be shot. Gentility bore a striking resemblance to Civility in colour, conformation and in the way she handled herself, and she gave plenty of promise. She was leased by Frank Lind, her trainer, and appeared certain to prove a high-class performer, so that her loss is a serious one. End of General Lu. General, Lu, who broke down while working at Ellerslie on Tuesday, has been destroyed. j
