MR. MARCUS SKELTON,
A well-known barrister and solicitor of the district, Mr. Marcus N. Skelton, died suddenly at Paparoa last night, agerl 59 years. He had been in perfect health, having headed a deputation to the Minister of Health re the hospital at Paparoa during the day, and later conducted a funeral at the Anglican Parish Church, of which he was a lay reader. He went ,to tfce hospital to inform the staff of the results of the conference with the Minister 01 Health, and on sitting down, collapsed and died instantly. ,
Mr. Skelton was a son of the iatc Geo. Skelton, J.P., and Mrs. Letitia Skelton, of Paparoa. He leaves a wife and two sons, and three brothers and three sisters. He was educated at* Paparoa Public School, and worked on his father's farm until he wae 21. He then became a teacher, went through is course at the Auckland University, and was about to take hi= degree when he was ..offered the post of senior housemaster at Nelson College. At 35 years of age he decided to study law, and he entered the oflice of his brother, Mr. A. Haft Skelton, in Auckland. Two years afterwards he was admitted to the Bar, and joined bis brother in partnership. He later took over the northern offices in the Kaipara, being stationed at Paparoa, his birthplace. : : • '. . Mr. Skelton was a member of the Kaipara Hospital i arid Caritable Aid Board.- He" was "kfeeilly ■interested* ill' Freemasonry and was-a past master of the Franklin Lodge, E:C. His old friend; Archdeacon Hawkins, of Auckland, will officiate at the funeral, at St. Mark'e Church, Paparoa, to-mor-row afternoon. •
