PASCOE TRIAL. CRAWFORD CUV RULES. WAITEMATA CHAMPIONSHIP. The two-day trial for the Pascoe Cup, under tho apspices of the Auckland Motor Cycle Club, will be 'held next week-end. Saturday's run will be from Auckland to Hamilton, by way of the Hauraki Plains and through Kaihcre, Patetonga. Tahuna and Morrinsville. The ridere will spend the night at Hamilton, where they will. he entertained by the local motor cycle club. Starting tests will be held at Hamilton on Sunday morning. From Hamilton, the route will lead to Te Awaniutu, and thence through Pirongia and Whatawhata to rejoin tho Great South Road at Ngaruawahia, At Eangiriri, the route will leave the main road to traverse an "observed" clay section and pass through Glen Massey, Tuakau and Pukekohe before rejoining the Great South Road. The trial is to finish at the Auckland railway station about 4.30 p.m. on Sunday. In addition to the Pascoe Cup itself, a trophy has been presented by Mr. S. Person. . This will be the first Pascoe Cup trial under the new rules drawn up by the club. Secret checks- will bo posted at intervals on the route. Tool boxes will not be sealed, as has been done hitherto. Crawford Cup. Under the rules drawn up by the Ixion Motor Cycle Club for the Crawford Cup trial, to be held on August 27, an interesting contest should result. As he starts each competitor will be told only the direction of the first check, the distance to run, and the average epeed to maintain. Each check will similarly direct the riders to the next over the whole course of about 70 miles. Starting and acceleration will be judged at each check, a selected hill section will be "observed" and a surprise braking test will be arranged. Points will be deducted for damage to machines. The cup has been presented by Mr. Crawford, of Avondalc, as the winner's prize in an annual trial. If won twice in succession, or thrice at intervals, it will become the property of the winner. Waitemata Champion. Owing to the heavy surf on the coast, the riders in the Waitemata Ciub's championship trial for the Coventry Eagle Presentation Shied on August 7 were unable to take the beach route from Karekare to Whatipu. After reaching Karekare from the junction, via Nihotupu, they turned inland to Oratia, and then over Macky'a Rest to Huia, and finished at Titirangi. Two riders had to retire at Huia with damaged machines, H. E. Matthews (488 Royal Enfield) having broken the footbreak pedal, and A. Lees (590 Ariel 4) the rear wheel spindle. The winner was K. Parnell (225 c.c. Royal Enfield), with E. S. Brookes (348 c.c. Douglas) second, and G. Booth (348 c.c. A.J.S.) third. The last-named made the best average time, but lost points for hie wild riding in the observed climb and colonial section. The others to nnieli were: H. W. Youren (496 c.c. Ariel.4), A. Sutherland (248 c.c. 8.5.A.) and G. HowJctt (348 c.c. Velocette). Inter-club Trial. Local clubs will be invited to enter one or more teams of three riders cachj in the Waitemata Club's next rclia-, bility trial, to be held on September 3, and Mr. A. Myers has donated three trophies to be presented to the winning team. A route in the Waitakere Ranges will probably be selected for the event. Overseas Sports. Only 13 of the 47 starters finished in the 17th annual Durban-Rand road race, for which the course is a 403-mile stretch of rough and unmade roads. The winner, B. Kinsey (4.99 h.p. 8.5.A.) averaged .58.27 m.p.h. and beat the previous record by 11 minutes. L. Cohen (4.99 h.p. 8.5.A.) was second, only two minutes behind Kinsey. The fifth annual motor cycle trial at Lodz, Poland, was won by a British rider, W. H. Buckley, riding a B.S.A. CLUB NOTES. A trophy has been presented to the Lxion Club by Mr. Kirby, of Avondale, for a reliability trial. The Ixion Club undertook a social run to Hunua Falls on Sunday, going via Mount Albert Road, Campbell Road and Great South Road. Replacing Mr. L. Moore, who resigned, Mr. A. Harrop was elected to the committee of the Ixion Club at last meeting. Mr. K. Harrop was elected club captain. At the next meeting of the Auckland Club, to be held on September 12, the comparative merits of British and American motor cycles will be debated. Th Waitemata Club has arranged a social run, under the leadership of Mr. E. S. Brookes, for Sunday next.
