MR. FORBES IN AMERICA.
VISIT TO WHITE HOUSE
NEW YORK, August 13.
Mr. Forbes, Mr. Masters and their party will spend a few days in New York and will visit Washington on Tuesday, where the members will be the guests of President Roosevelt.
Mr. Forbes says he thinks the nations at the conference at least passed the discussion period and now are ready to get down to details. He doubts if a New Zealand .delegation will attend the-next session of the conference owing to the distance they would have to travel. The Dominion's primary interest now is in higher commodity prices.
The New Zealand Prime Minister yesterday began to make preparations for a conference at New York with the Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. H. H. Stevens, concerning the trade treaty between the two .countries. Canada is understood to be pressing for a further extension of the treaty, which will expire on November 24. Mr. Forbes says ho cannot accept the invitation of tho Canadian Government to visit Ottawa.
