WELLINGTON, this day,
While engaged in a game of golf on the Miramar links on Saturday, Mr. D. J. Hawkes suddenly collapsed and expired within a few minutes. He was about to play a mashie shot to the thirteenth green in a game with the ReK C. V. Kooke.
Play on the course was suspended during the afternoon.
Mr. Hawkes was a member of the staff of the electricity department of the City Council, and held high qualifications as an electrical engineer.
