MINE MANAGER'S RE-PORT. Golconda. —During the week .the following . work has been carried out: Drive west through the break on the main reef advanced 10ft and picked up the reef. It is about 3t't wide, but is still disturbed through 1 the influence of the break. The quartz is 1 heavily mineralised, but no gold has yet I been seen. The reef is underlying very Out, about 2 in 1, and if it keeps this underlie it will drop through the branch reef at about 30ft overhead (or the branch reef will drop through it). Host of the work has been confined to this point, as it is a new development. We have limbered up the drive on No. 2 branch reef west and fired c out a round of holes; the quartz looks promising, but the country is very hard, t Repairs are being carried out In flie south slopes and colours of gold are in the quartz c that has fallen away. . a MAHAKIPAWA RETURN. j The Mahaklpawa (Marlborough) return £ for the week ended August 5 was Boz. For j. the month of July the wash-up was 1770z. MATAKI GOLD DREDGE. The Matakl Gold Company's dredge, which Is to operate at Murchison, will commence operations on Thursday next. Mr. C. O. Mahoney. of Auckland, chairman of< directors, and Mr. G. Stitt, managing director, who has been supervising the completion of the dredge, will be present at the opening ceremony. . , ' OKARITO RETURN. 1 1 The Okarlto return showed that 98oz of 1 \ gold were obtained for last week's working, J of lIS hours. —~- - I-- 1
