DEVONPORT FIRE BRIGADE.

Firemen from most of the brigades in Auckland attended the annual social of the Devonport Fire Brigade on Saturday evening, the Mayor of Devonport, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, presiding.

Among those present were Mr. E. W. Alison, founder of the brigade, Mr. A. Harris, M.P., Messrs. W. K. Howitt and F. J. Fletcher, two of the senior honorary members, and Mr. E. Aldridge, a former Mayor of the borough.

A warm reception was given Dr. H. C. Bennett when he received his two-year bar to his 25-year gold medal. He has now served for 27 years as surgeon to the brigade. High tribute was paid to the doctor's long and valuable service. Dr. Trevor de Clive Lowe was awarded his five-year medal. It was mentioned that Superintendent Folks and Lieutenant Stevens would receive the 25-year gold stars next year, both having joined the brigade on the same day.

Trophies won by brigade members during the year were presented by the deputy-Mayor, Mr. E. H. Little.

Captain Roberts, of the Northcote Brigade, replying to the toast of the visitors, said the Devonport Brigade had a wonderful record, and had always been willing to help sister brigades in the North Shore boroughs.
