REQUIEM MASS.

LATE MR. J. J. O'BRIEN. BISHOP LISTON'S TEIBUTE. Solemn Eequeim Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Cathedral this morning for the repose of the soul of the late Mr. J. J. O'Brien. The celebrant was Right Bev. Bishop J. M. Liston. The deacon of the Mass was the Rev. Father Furlong, and the sub-deacon Father P. McKeefrey. The master of ceremonies was the Rev. Dr. L. T. Buxton. The church was filled with representatives of all the religious orders of the diocese and a large number of priests and personal friends. The requiem music was sung bv a choir of priests and Marist brother's under Father Terry. Miss Ormond was the organist. After the Mass Bishop Liston said that the late Mr. O'Brien was a deeply respected leader of the Catholic laity, and the ideal Catholic layman in his relation with his fellow-men. He was wise, brave, true, just, courteous, tolerant, disinterested and fair and honourable in all his dealings, and day by day in small things and large gave a helping hand to others. "It was his religion." the Bishop added, "that influenced a life of justice and charity. He leaves us the memory of a man who was humble and reverent, served his Maker, and kept in his heart a love of home, country, church and of all that is good and noble in human life." When the Bishop officiated at the catafalque the choir sang "The Absolution."

The funeral tortk place at Hillsboro' Cemetery, where Bishop Liston performed the last rites, assisted, by the VicarGeneral, the Very Eev. Monsignor Cnhill, V.G., and surrounding clergy.
