NO NEW JUDGE.
EFFECT ON FIXTURES,
As a result of the Government's decision not to appoint a new judge in the meantime to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. Justice Adams from the Judiciary on August 3, it has been found necessary to alter the circuit arrangements, and a revision of the fixtures made for the hearing of cases in the Sureme Court at Wellington is also involved. Reference to the position was made by Mr. Justice Reed when addressing counsel during the hearing of a case in the Supreme Court in Wellington. A suggestion had been made that his Honor should inspect certain property at Lower Hutt, but his Honor said be would not have time to do so. Evidently, he said, it wa,s not the Government's intention to appoint a new judge for a time. Fixtures for "Wellington had' been made on the assumption that- three judges would be available to take them, but now Mr. Justice MacGregor would have to go to Christchurch. Originally it was proposed that the new judge should take the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court at Christchurch, opening next Tuesday. As no appointment-has been madia Mr. Justice i MacGregor is to preside-** Christchurch.
