Mr. T. Brown, of Kawakawa, returned by the Mariposa yesterday. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., returned to Auckland this morning. Mr. Justice Frazer is joining the express for Rotorua this afternoon at Morrinsville. Mr. H. L. Rees, of Auckland, was a passenger by the Mariposa for Sydney last evening. ilr. and Mrs. R. G. Bennett, of Auckland, left by the Mariposa last evening for a short holiday in Melbourne. Mr. Albert Russell, director of J. J. Niven and Company, is leaving for Wellington by the express this afternoon. Mr. A. H. Cockayne, assistant director of the Department of Agriculture, is confined to his home in Wellington, owing to illness. Mr. M. H. Wynyard, motorists' representative on the Main Highways Board, leaves for Wellington by the Limited to-morrow evening. Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding the Northern Command, Major R. Miles and Major P. H. Bell left for Wellington by the express this afternoon to attend a senior officers' conference. The Rev. Norman- Gutry, second son jof Mr. and Mrs. George Gutry, of One- | whero, has received the degree of bachelor of science in education at the [Boston University. He is at present engaged in special mission work in the United States, prior to taking charge i°f & church in September. The Birkenhead Fire Brigade received a call at 8.30 last evening to an incipient fire at McGovern's store, Mokoia Road. Through the quick arrival of the brigade it was suppressed with the first-aid hose rel.
