VALUELESS CHEQUES.
ISSUED BY FARM HAND,
A farm hand, Harry Reid, aged 36, pleaded guilty in the Police Court today to seven charges of false pretences. Detective-Sergeant O'Sullivan said that early in July accused stole a cheque book belonging to his employer. Reid went to Pukekohe and then on to Auckland. At both towns he put off a number of valueless cheques, and obtained goods valued at £10 3/6 and £26 8/8 in cash. "There are a number of other cheques he issued, but he is not charged with these, as the shopkeepers do not wish to make any complaint," added Mr. O'Sullivan. Accused, ho said, had never been in trouble before. He was a married man. Asked why he committed the offences, Reid said ho was "hard up" and committed them on the spur of the moment. Mr. McKean: You could not have done that, as the offences were committed on different dates.
Reid was remanded for sentence until he had beeu dealt with by the Supreme Court on a charge to be heard at Te Arolia.
