The weather was fine for training at Riccarton this morning. The outside of the trial grass track was open and it was in good order, though a trifle dead. The work consisted chiefly of short sprints, a largo number of horses being restricted to half-miles. Water Power took 49 4-5s for this distance, Chrvsology 50s, Cricket Bat 50 3-ss, Silvox 51 2-ss, Imitator and High Rank 51 l-ss, Martian Chief and Top Rank 52 2-ss, and Drumfire (along back) 49 4-ss. Beacon Fire ran five furlongs in 1.6, Epigram and Normandy taking 1.19 2-5 for six furlongs. Water Polo and Haere Tonu ran half a mile in 51 2-ss, Chief Light and Strong Light taking 50 2-ss. Foreign Queen covered five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, the last half-mile taking 50 2-ss. Takakua ran six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Croupier easily beat Cylinder over six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Charmeuse narrowly beat Southdown at the end of half a mile in 50 3-ss. Luna Lux and Henry of Navarre ran half a mile in 54 ]-ss, Fiat Lux and Bright Red taking 49 4-ss. Bay Tree and Cyclonic ran fiVe furlongs from a stand in 1.5 3-5. the last half-mile in 51 3-ss. Dorian and Manetho ran half a mile in 50 2-ss, Rational 11., Hounslow and Marquillo taking 52 4-ss. St. Joan traversed five furlongs easily in 1.7. Silver Ring did half a mile in 51s. Polydora beat Cottesmore over five furlongs in 1.5 2-5, the last halfmile taking 525. Jaloux and Davolo ran half a mile in 555, Marmoration taking 52 4-ss. On No. 7 grass, a short track. Shatter and Nightly covered five furlongs in 1.2 1-5, Dracula taking 1.3 1-5. Adventus jumped four hurdles well. Polling Day went well over four hurdles, Tea Urn accompanying him over the first two. Don Jose and Joie de Yal also jumped four hurdles, both shaping well. Lady Rene went over two hurdles. Night Parade started with her, but fell at the first flight. Later he went over four safely. Tentcall gave a fair display over four hurdles. A large number of horses did useful pace work on the sand. Make Up was sore when doing only walking exercise. His stablemate. Landmark, lias not worked for several days and it is understood he will not start at the meeting.
