RACING IN AUSTRALIA.
TROUBLE AT CAUTJFIELD
POIDALE'S VICTORY UNPOPULAR,
MELBOURNE, August 6.
The public made a hostile demonstration against Poidale, winner of the Australian Hurdle Ttace, the chief event at the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting at Caulfield yesterday. The horse's owner, Mr. P. G. Hay, was so upset over the affair that he made a -Statement to the Press, declaring that he had not had a on the horse and that the hostility was quite unjustified, particularly in view of the fact that Poidale had met with a slight accident last Tuesday and was not expected to do himself justice. The New Zealand-bred gelding Golden Horn was second in the first division of the Crimea Trial, in which Shining Gold was unplaced. Good Hunting, one of G. W. New's team, was third in the Moondah Plate, in which Peter "Jackson and Ruling Light were The Auck-land-owned Weatherwise was unplaced in the Malakoff Stakes.Results:—

The race was practically all over -when half the journey had been covered. Poidale having established a long lead, and eventually winning by 12 lengths from Sub Rosa, who defeated Lady Doris bv a< length. Then followed Hyde Park, 'rtrho was six lengths away, Phocis, Pitoota and Sarocto. Zygon fell. Time, 6.7.
