OTAGO SOCCER TEAM.
SELECTION CRITICISED.
AUCKLAND'S CHANCE OF VICTORY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. Few regular followers of Soccer will agree w4th the selector's choice of the eleven to defend the F.' A. Trophy against Auckland. It has been selected regardless of individual claims based on form, temperament and positions. McDougall, in goal, and Hooper, centre forward, stand out as match winners. Of the full-backs, Coats is playing in his correct position, but Taylor has not been tried as left back. Duncan, now a young veteran in the Otago team, is to be tried out as centre half, and Stenhousc and Moon are by no means the most eligible halves. Duncan would be of more value as outside right. In forwards, in which the team is very weak, with the exception of Hooper and Skinner (outside left), the vanguard lacks scoring ability.
The selection lias met with general disapproval, and the view is held that Otano's luck will need to hold if the trophy is to be retained. The team is:—Goal, J. McDougall; fullbacks, 7j. Coats, G. Taylor; halves, A Steniiouse, S. Duncan, W. Moon; forwards. J. Gorrie, T. McHtigh, W. Hooper, T. McCorinack, C. Skinner.
